We create theatre with and for older people living in care.

Current Production

The Maids by Jean Genet

This fast moving twisted game of power and desire was to be Graeme Phillips’ final production as director, following last years’ Krapp’s Last Tape.

Sadly, Graeme, who had been living in care since 2021, died in August of complications associated with Parkinson’s and Lewy Body dementia.

The creative team, long-time friends of Graeme, were determined to present the play, and will do so now in his memory. For 33 years, he was Artistic Director of Unity Theatre and was involved in all of our touring productions to care homes in recent years.

The production has embedded a participation programme with refugees and asylum seekers from Afloat, who will explore themes of the play - oppression, isolation and incarceration.

We are also inviting care home residents to make a flower for a loved one they have lost. The flowers will be exhibited in the Unity Theatre and foyer during the week of 13th October. Please contact us if you would like to get involved.

Financially supported by Arts Council England

If you would like to donate to That Theatre Group on a regular basis or make a one off donation, you can do so below.

All donations will go towards the production costs of future shows we’ll be touring to care homes for older people.

In memory of Graeme Phillips MBE, donations received will go towards the costs of The Maids, to ensure we achieve our match funding agreement with Arts Council England, which has supported the production.

What we do

That Theatre Group CIC produces work with and for older people living in care.

We record the memories of care home residents and use these to create scripts which develop into original professional theatre productions.

We provide meaningful therapeutic engagement for people living with dementia, and encourage older people not only to share their much-loved memories with us, but also to reflect on the present day and communicate their hopes and dreams for the future.

Please help us make a difference by making a donation. Thank you.
